Snowway
State of emergency situation was declared in Latvia today for the first time since renewal of independence. The reason is snow and the lack of electricity in part of Latvia. Currently around 8000 households doesn't have an electricity which is much less than few days ago when it was more than 50 000. Rather many rural schools have postponed the start of education in new year. Living in Riga I don't face any problems though. While I'm 8 years in Riga, I have experienced only one time when there was an electricity break - it was after strong summer thunderstorm and lasted about an hour.
But the massive amount of snow brings not only visually aesthetical pleasure but also (as weird as it may sound) a practical goodness - it's much easier now to cross a railway in my neighbourhood.
