2 epochs in 1 ensemble
Architectonic ensemble of buildings on Sadovņikova street is rather unique because of several things. First, it's interesting how 2 different eras are literally blended together - the building on the corner is built just before World War 1 - in 1914, designed by one of most famous and productive Riga architects Eižens Laube. But the red bricked buildings which embraces it, are postmodernist buildings from the beginning of 90ies (architects Bušs and Poga). However it looks rather harmonious to me. Also, the fact that the new buildings are built in 1990 and 1992 is rather surprising - the period of USSR collapse and first years of renowned independent state was economically dreadful time, absolute poorness. There was a point when even intercity buses didn't run because Latvia had fuel deficit. But it turns out that someone built new buildings at that time...
You can see this huge complex also from other side.
