Ķengarags riverside
Ķengarags was one of first commieblock suburbs built in Soviet time. It's development started in 60ies and it occupies southern part of right bank Riga. Ķengarags is also second most populous district in Riga (behind only Purvciems) with 55 828 inhabitants (2008 data).
One of most desirable places to live in Ķengarags could be these riverfront highrises - there must be a good view towards Riga bridges and opposite left bank Riga (which is not very urban at this place though) from upper floors. However, in the case of catastrophe this is also one of the most vulnerable places in Riga. If Daugava comes out of it's banks, these would be first areas flooded. Btw, some Ukrainian scientist has prognosed this week a big earth-quake for Riga as a result of "swing effect" from Japan earth-quake. That seems more like yellow "bull-shit", however, although Latvia isn't in seismologicaly active area, it is possible to occur earth-quakes here up to 7 on the Richter scale.
