Riga inscriptions
One of the most interesting modern architecture accomplishements in Riga centre is Radisson hotel on Elizabetes street. Texts of Latvian folk songs about Riga chosen by former Latvian president Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga are inscribed on it's facade. On the second pic, the upper folk song says something like that (forgive my lame translation but it's really hard to translate a folk song):
"Heard about Riga for a long time,
Now I finally see it:
All around hills of sand,
Riga herself in water"

In my mind it's one of the most awful new buildings in Riga.
ReplyDeleteIt grows over the pavement and crushes in to the road although it's not visible in those pictures.
