Shame
Shameful thing has happened in Riga - one of few small stretches of Riga's medieval defense wall has partly ruined. It has happened because Riga municipality hasn't done necessary conservation works - last time when wall was strengthened was in Soviet time, 70ies. These fragmentary walls are most authentic structures in Riga, they have stood more than 700 years and now - in 21st Century - they falls to pieces.

Now that is a shame. You would think they would do something to stop the wall coming down, or secretly do they want the wall gone so they can do something with the land?
ReplyDelete(Isn't there bodies built into this wall - the lady who was in love with the Swedish soldier and who whispers late at night - something like that)
The oldest building in Australia was three hundred years old short of going overseas I can't imagine something being that old.
Damn shame
"or secretly do they want the wall gone so they can do something with the land?"
ReplyDeleteActually that's one of speculations here. That someone "helped" the wall to come down, because recently there was announced a tender of this land. Municipality of course denies that, and says that if the winner would be already known, then it would look more suspicious. But here in Latvia, winner is already known before the tender quite often...
"Isn't there bodies built into this wall - the lady who was in love with the Swedish soldier"
No, no, that is another wall. It's in good shape, nothing could happen there.
"I can't imagine something being that old."
Well, what could you say about Greek or Roman ruins then, or even better - Egypt's pyramids? ;)
