Occupy everything
At first I thought that this is a support action for "Occupy Wall Street" movement, but recently I found out the reason is different. "Occupy everything" activists indicates a serious problem in Riga - quite many (some 1/5) of the historical, beautiful Riga centre buildings are staying empty, abandoned and falls into decay, slowly turning to wrecks. The activity in apartment and office real estate sector isn't large enough to provide a massive renovation of these once luxurious buildings... "Occupy everything" calls for allowance to use these buildings to host culture activities, and it has became more actual before 2014 when Riga becomes European capital of culture. It's a nice idea, but, of course, it won't save the buildings in long-term. There has to be done costly renovations and only real estate investors or municipality (because part of the buildings belongs to it) could do it. [full_width]
