14th June - day of mourning
Today is a sad day in Latvia's history. Back in 1941, on the night from 13th June to 14th June, the Soviets exiled 15 000 Latvian people to Siberia (many of them died there). They were carried all the way in such cattle trucks which is situated at the Torņakalns station in Riga from where their exile started. On the second photo you see a memorial monument in front of the historical station building.
